ometimes you reach a point in your life where you need a change your commute to work is too stressful, your work is no longer challenging, you spend more hours at the office than at home. We reached that point in August 1999.
Little did we know that this would be the start of a sometimes frustrating but always exciting quest to find, renovate or build The Perfect Inn.
We spent six months touring a number of currently operational Inns, and we placed offers on several different historic homes that could have been converted to Inns, but we had no success.
Just when we were about to abandon the idea of The Perfect Inn, this house became available. We fell in love with it the moment we drove into the driveway, put an offer on it within an hour, and had a signed contract the same day.
We moved in on December 4, 1999 and began our work.
In the past, The Inn at Stringfellow Farm had been a Girl's School. There were six bedrooms and a single bathroom upstairs in the main house. We decided, however, that they were too small to provide the level of comfort we wished for our guests. So, we knocked out walls, finished out the attic and added a bathroom. The result was two large two bedroom suites, each with private bath facilities.
We knew that we would need more guest accommodations, so we designed a substantial addition to the property. We intended to add only a further six guest bedrooms, but like every building project, this one took on a life of its own.
We now are nearing completion of a 4000 square foot addition that includes six large guest bedrooms with private bathrooms , a 26 X 50 Great Room with a galleried second floor, a 2300 square foot deck with two gazebos, and a full basement for eventual use as a pub.
Chronicled for you below is our progression from the wettest excavation ever seen to the final framing and deck work. As we progress we will update this page, so check back! The internal decorating should start soon, so you will be able to view the interior as well. Our anticipated opening date is September 2000.
